According to Autobusiness Daily, which is Belorussian publication, in 2009 car import to Belorussia reduced by 18.4% if compared with 2008, to 163.5 thousand units, in terms of money import reduced by 30.8% to 1,016 billion US dollars.
In 2009 individuals imported 76.2 thousand autos (a 28.1% decrease) to the amount of 437.6 million US dollars (a 31.4% decrease). Legal entities imported 87.3 thousand autos (a 7.5% decrease) to the amount of 578.4 million US dollars (a 30.4% decrease).
Legal entities chiefly imported vehicles from Germany, 30.9 thousand autos to the amount of 203.5 million US dollars, France, 21.9 thousand units to the amount of 88.7 million US dollars, Japan, 8.1 thousand units to the amount of 92.3 million US dollars.
According to statistics, in 2009 decrease in volume of import from Russia was registered: import reduced three-fold, to 1,408 thousand units, in terms of money a 3.5-fold decrease of import, to 9.8 million US dollars, was observed. Statistics of import by individuals in 2009 showed changes in the tendency: though during the first five months of 2009 individuals imported more vehicles than during the same period of the previous year, then import by individuals started to reduce and amounted to 46.6% against 53.5% imported by legal entities according to the results of the year.
In 2009, a tendency for reduction in price of vehicles imported was also observed. If in 2008 autos priced below 5 thousand US dollars accounted for nearly a half of all vehicles imported and 30% was made by autos from 5 to 10 thousand US dollars, then in 2009, more than 60% of all vehicles imported cost less than 5 thousand US dollars, about 25% from 5 to 10 thousand US dollars. This fact, according to experts’ opinion, testifies to decrease in buying capacity of the Belorussians.
